Give Your Feedback to “Draft” NCLB Flexibility Waiver

The Department is still accepting comments on the state’s draft application for a federal flexibility waiver for the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.  Educators and the public are encouraged to review the draft application.  Draft 2 is available on the website and draft 3 is expected shortly.  The plan is to ask the State Board to approve a draft on Feb. 21 and at that time submit the waiver application to the U.S. Department of Education.

An online introductory presentation, frequently asked questions and other information is available on the Department’s website.

According to the Missouri Constitution, “The supervision of instruction in the public schools shall be vested in a state board of education ...” (Article IX, Section 2a). This provision gives the State Board of Education general authority for public education, within limits set by the General Assembly.

The mission of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is to guarantee the superior preparation and performance of every child in school and in life.
